Yichang, a pleasant city at
the site of the controversial Three Gorges Dam, is a small, fresh and prosperous
riverside settlement that is drawing increasing national and international
attention because of the dam. Economic development has given the city a
distinct cosmetic advantage over the many other evocative yet drab towns
along the length of much of the river. It is the major port of call between
Wuhan and Chongqing and appears to be an exceptionally attractive location.
