The most spectacular region
of the Yangtse River is undoubtedly the Three Gorges, where the Yangtse
tongues at the feet of a seemingly endless series of mountains. Internationally
known as the site of the controversial dam that will flood the entire region
when completed this decade, it is renowned in China for its beauty and
for its dangerous rapids that annually claim many lives, and which have
done so for millennia.
