Panjin
Panjin
Panjin is a small city in lower Liaoning province. It's reputation is slight, its value as a tourist attraction very little known. Apart from a sanctuary for Japanese cranes, and its reputation for a bountiful supply of freshwater crabs, most Chinese even in Liaoning itself would have little to say about the place.

But for me, Panjin is Liaoning's little city of promise. Most of the metropolitan areas are less than 20 years old. The city runs on gas, as opposed to the coal that clots the air with smuts all over the rest of the province, including Dalian, famous for its clean skies. Panjin is cleaner; newer; and brighter. It is an ideal quiet town that noone bothers about, and is therefore a delight for a traveller looking for some space.
